Two new faculty books this month. Congratulations to Professors Purnima Dhavan and Ray Jonas.
Dhavan's book, When Sparrows Became Hawks: The Making of the Sikh Warrior Tradition, 1699-1799 was published this month by Oxford University Press. As one reviewer notes, the book "is a wonderful tour de force which answers some of the most nagging questions of eighteenth-century Sikh history."
The Battle of Adwa: African Victory in the Age of Empire published by Harvard University Press was highlighted in a Publisher's Weekly starred review -- "Weaving a colorful account from the stories of a dazzling array of characters, Jonas skillfully recreates this now mostly forgotten event that determined the color of Africa."
