Web Find: Reading: Harvard Views of Readers, Readership, and Reading History

Explore the intellectual, cultural, and political history of reading through historical textbooks, book club records, 18th and 19th century Harvard Library check-out records, commonplace books, and Native American mission records in this new collection on reading. Highlights of the collection include the hand-written catalog of William Wordsworth's personal library, Henry David Thoreau's list of checked-out books (on March 28, 1837 he checked out "Burke on the Sublime") and Herman Melville's marginalia filled-copy of The Natural History of the Sperm Whale.
