Next time you're trying to find a book in the Suzzallo Allen Libraries be sure to check the latest location information (at an information desk or look for signs) before heading up to the stacks. Every book in the building will be moving over the course of the next year. Why? Because we need to make room for the collections of the Fisheries Oceanography, Chemistry and Natural Sciences libraries. In addition, journals and magazines from the periodicals section and the children's literature collection will be integrated with the general book collections. This means that The Hamster history of Britain (yes, British history told by hamsters) will be sitting near A people's history of England (a 544 page tome by A.L. Morton).
The move started today with items beginning with A call numbers. Eventually the entire collection will be topsy-turvy with A call numbers on the 4th floor and Z's on the 1st. The majority of history-related items (books, journals, children's) will be on Suzzallo 3rd and 4th floors with world history divided between floors (with Europe on the 4th and Asian, African, North and South American on the 3rd). The new arrangement will be:
- Suzzallo 4: A - DR
- Suzzallo 3: DS - HA
- Allen North 3: HB - HN
- Allen South 3: HQ - PA
- Suzzallo 2: PB - PR
- Allen North 2: PS - Q
- Allen South 2: QA - RS
- Allen South 1: S - Z
Not moving : Reference, Special Collections, Microform & Newspapers, Curriculum Materials and Government Publications. Reference will remain on the 1st floor of Suzzallo but will broaden its collection to include scientific encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks and other material.
