Empire Online is a database with more than 60,000 images of primary sources related to Empire Studies. Though international in scope, the majority of the material is in English and deals with the British empire. Sources include both published and manuscript materials such as diaries, exploration logs, illustrations, correspondence, magazines and slave papers. Documents are divided into 5 sections:
- Cultural Contacts, 1492-1969
- Empire Writing and the Literature of Empire
- The Visible Empire
- Religion & Empire
- Race, Class, Imperialism and Colonialism, 1607-2007
