The digitized backfiles of the Chicago Defender (1905-1975) and Wall Street Journal (1889-1989) are now available. Links to these newspapers can be found on the History Subject Page.
Also available as part of the Chicago Defender package is the Black Studies Center which includes the International Index to Black Periodicals, the Schomburg Studies on the Black Experience (essays), selected fulltext articles, selected fulltext dissertations and images.
Also funded was another section of the US Congressional Serial Set. This database now covers from 1817 to 1906. Unfortunately the Los Angeles Times digitized backfile was not funded at this time. Another request for funding of this newspaper will be made in the spring.
