Recent UW grad, Amy Absher, shared her expertise of African American music and history with radio listeners of KEXP in the documentary series Civil Rights Songs. You can hear her commentary on episodes dealing with Nina Simone, Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, and the Staples Singers. You can learn more about the history of African American musicians in Amy's dissertation, Music, race, and Chicago : 1912-1966 available in Suzzallo Library.
